The friction-based torque limiter available for wormgears type MRV and RV, is designed to protect the transmission from accidental overloads which could damage the drive elements. Against conventional external torque limiters, this solution lends the following advantages:

- unchanged external dimensions against standard units;
- maintenance-free as the system is permanently lubricated;
- slip torque can be easily adjusted by means of a simple manual operation from the outside of the gearbox;
- slipping, even if continuous does not create any damage or wear to the mechanical parts, since slipping parts are constantly separated by an oil film.
